Parliament meeting advanced to 5th! Election gazette date! Is this the final election postponement attempt?

According to reports, the Parliament will meet on January 5, 2023, as a special Parliament Day. The meeting was decided following a meeting of the Parliamentary Affairs Committee.

According to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, it was decided to hold Parliament on January 5th due to the extension of the Parliament’s holiday period until January 17th. The second reading debate and vote on the Rehabilitation Bureau Bill and the Bill of Repossession of Leased Premises, both of which have been heavily criticised in recent days, are scheduled for January 5th.

The chairman of the Election Commission, on the other hand, stated that he is ready to issue the gazette calling the local government election on January 5.
