Opposition Leader condemns ‘witch hunt’ against youth

On Tuesday (09), Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarians demonstrated near the Parliament’s entrance against the current state of emergency and the Government’s repressive measures.

At the protest, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa condemned the government’s repression efforts and the “witch hunt” against youth, including kidnapping incidents.

He demanded that the government stop arresting youth and support efforts to reestablish democracy in the country.

SJB MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka also demanded that the government release all those arrested as a result of the protests, and that such arrests be prohibited in the future.

“Give the country’s people the human rights they deserve. Allow them to express themselves freely. The government should realistically set a precedent, but instead acts completely hypocritically “He stated.
