State Minister for Finance Mr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that he will act according to the decision given by the Supreme Court preventing the retention of the money allocated from the budget for the local government polls.

It could be the Ministry of Finance, it could be the government, it could be an institution, it could be private, it is everyone’s responsibility to explain the court decision. According to the Ministry of Finance, we are working according to that respect. I don’t see any problem with it. Acting according to a court decision is a special responsibility that everyone is bound to. According to the court decision, we have to align expenses.”

The Supreme Court yesterday (03) issued a restraining order to the Attorney General and the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance on behalf of the President, preventing the retention of the money allocated for election activities in the 2023 budget.
