Norochcholai fails again; three-hour power outage today

The Public Utilities Commission says that the daily power cut will have to be extended from today (27) due to a sudden breakdown in the third section of the Norochchole coal plant.

The chairman of that commission, Mr. Janaka Ratnayake, said that due to the collapse of the third part of the Norochchole power plant last night (26), the national system has lost an electricity capacity of 270 megawatts.

Due to the fact that the second third part of the Norochchole power plant has also been stopped for maintenance work, only the first third part of the plant is currently active.

Mr. Janaka Rathnayake said that power generation has been severely affected due to the current situation and it will take a few days to make the third power plant which has been disabled active.

Accordingly, the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission Mr. Janaka Ratnayake said that the power cut will be extended to 3 hours for today only.
