No plan to change dress code of teachers: Minister

Education Minister Susil Premajayantha yesterday ruled out any plan to change the dress code of school teachers for duty.

Making his remarks at a function, he said the school system depends on the discipline of 4.2 million school children who follow their Principals and Teachers as role models.

The Minister said Sri Lanka’s values should not be compromised due to influence of alien cultures.   The Minister was responding to media reports about purported plans to change the dress code upon a proposal by Ceylon Teachers’ Union.

Its General Secretary, Joseph Stalin, made the request.
However, he met with stiff resistance from society.
