Janaka Ratnayake, chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, said today that if the Cabinet approves the proposal to raise electricity tariffs, there is no need to go to court and the Public Utilities Commission will use its veto power to reject it.

Mr. Ratnayake said that the proposal to increase the electricity tariffs presented to the Cabinet was a proposal prepared by the Secretary of the Ministry of Electricity, the new General Manager of the Electricity Board and an engineer and that the proposal was prepared based on wrong data and there were contradictions in the number of methods, electricity demand and supply etc.
