National Sports Council to launch inquiry against SLC

The newly formed National Sports Council, led by former Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga, has launched an investigation into Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) regarding the Asia Cup cricket tournament.

The Council intends to investigate why the cricket tournament, which was supposed to be hosted by Sri Lanka, was moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Arjuna Ranatunga, a former World Cup-winning Sri Lanka captain, stated that an investigation will be conducted and a report will be presented to the Sports Minister.

Meanwhile, Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe chastised Sri Lanka Cricket for passing up the chance to host the Asia Cup in 2022.

He claimed that the SLC should have found a way to host the cricket tournament because Sri Lanka had previously hosted Australia and Pakistan.

Inquiring as to why the SLC had failed to host the tournament, the Sports Minister stated that the cricket series could have brought in much-needed funds to help Sri Lanka’s struggling economy.
