Monkeypox: Sri Lankan confirms second case

Sri Lanka detected its second case of Monkeypox on Wednesday (9), confirmed the country’s Health Ministry.

It is reported that the second person to have been tested for Monkeypox is a Sri Lankan who returned from Dubai recently.

On the 4th of November 2022, Sri Lanka’s health ministry reported the first case of monkey pox in the country.

Sri Lanka detected its first case of Monkeypox on 4th November 2022,  after a 20-year-old man who returned to Sri Lanka from Dubai on the 1st of November tested positive.

He had consulted a doctor for treatment due to suspicions that he may have contracted a social disease, and his samples were sent to the Medical Research Institute in Colombo where it was confirmed that he had Monkeypox.

He is currently being treated at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases in Colombo.
