Story behind govt’s failed attempts on postponing elections…

As soon as former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa fled Sri Lanka in fear of the people’s uprising, we began periodically releasing information about him to the country through the ‘Rajya Rahas’ column. We reported that Gota had a strong desire to go to America from the moment he decided to flee the country, while the media remained silent. Gota’s son, daughter-in-law, and grand daughter resided in America.

Gota’s wife, Ayoma Rajapaksa, is also a dual American citizen, thus, his primary objective was to escape to the United States. His application for a visa to the United States, to fulfill Fil Gota’s American dream was denied in the first round, but he did not abandon his attempts. Multiple times, he attempted to enter the United States through diplomatic channels and personal relationships with the American Embassy in Sri Lanka, but he was unsuccessful.

We reported that Gota had once applied for an American green card to enter the country. However, we noted that it also failed. Additionally, Gota once attempted to travel to America for a few days on a tourist visa through the Sri Lankan embassy. Even the highest level of government reportedly contacted the embassy for assistance. Due to the embassy’s refusal, Gota attempted to travel to the United Kingdom or another European country. But ultimately, these efforts also failed.

Under these circumstances, Gota was unable to leave the country and was forced to remain at home. As politicians and friends did not visit Gota as usual, he was forced to maintain a monotonous lifestyle. The fact that Gota’s son Manoj travelled from the United States to Sri Lanka with his wife and daughter for a holiday was somewhat reassuring. According to the information available to the Rajya Rahas column, Gota attempted to obtain a visa to travel to the United States even after his son’s arrival in Sri Lanka by contacting the American Embassy in Sri Lanka. Nonetheless, Gota received the standard response. Due to this, Gota said to his son with great sensitivity, “I have been inside this house…

Chung’s visit home

Another significant event occurred in connection with this. Our “Rajya Rahas” column is the first to inform the nation about this incident, which was not reported by any media outlet. It was the visit of the American ambassador to this country, Mrs. Julie Chung, to Gota’s spacious home on Malalasekara Mawatha. She carried a special message for Gota. She came solely to inform Gota to stop applying for a visa to enter the United States. Julie Chung has informed Gota and his family not to make any further attempts to enter the United States, as it has been revealed in “Rajya Rahas Column” that numerous problems have arisen as a result of Gota’s persistent attempts to enter the country. Chang’s announcement also “shocked” Gota’s family.

Manoj decided to take his parents on a short vacation after realising his father’s predicament as a result of this incident. Therefore, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates was the only country that they could have gone to. Last Monday, Gota, his wife, son Manoj, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter traveled to Dubai for nine days. But the Sri Lankan media, which had no knowledge of this, reported that Gota had left for America that afternoon and that he had planned to go to Dubai before departing for America. The most notable occurrence that came to light was Gota’s departure for the United States, which was falsely reported by all Sinhala and English-language websites claiming to be national in this country.

Visits Dubai Miracle Garden

But we were well aware that Gota was ineligible to enter the United States, and a quick investigation revealed that Gota and his family had travelled to Dubai for a 9-day vacation. Accordingly, we took measures to publish this news as an extraordinary story on our website on Monday morning. In addition, we took steps the following day to publish on our website a photo depicting Gota and his family’s visit to Dubai’s “Miracle Garden,” a beautiful location.

Lies published about Bill Gates

Last week, a certain media outlet that claims to be national, to be at the pinnacle of credibility, and to have a high level of professionalism reported another huge lie, similar to the fabrication that Gota went to America. This is the publication of the news that Bill Gates, one of the five richest people in the world, will visit Sri Lanka the following year. The statement that the media did not publish this news but rather “planted” as it is entirely accurate. There was no mention of Bill Gates’s visit to Sri Lanka in the news.

The only item of note was that the President had instructed former MP Ruwan Wijayawardena to organise a climate conference, and it was decided to invite Bill Gates, an expert on global climate change, to attend. But Ruwan Wijayawardena’s Sinhala and Tamil media outlets reported that Bill Gates would visit Sri Lanka the following year.

Accordingly, we also inquired with the Bill Gates Foundation regarding the veracity of this news. There, we discovered that the rumour was completely false and that Bill Gates had not even been invited to visit Sri Lanka. Consequently, on the same day, we informed the nation via our website that the news was also false. As responsible media, our decision was based on a number of factors. One of them is to educate the public about the media, which continues to deceive the citizens of this nation by spreading fake news.

The purpose of this is to demonstrate to the nation what these media outlets are doing by claiming to be genuine while publishing false news. Otherwise, there is no doubt that tomorrow this so-called national media will fabricate news to deceive the public by claiming that even the wealthiest people in the world, such as Elon Musk, will visit Sri Lanka.

Mission behind Rajaratnams secret trip to SL

In addition to Bill Gates, another well-known international figure arrived in Sri Lanka from the United States last week. Although he is said to be a world-famous entertainer, this person is referred to as “dead stock” in the local language. Born in Sri Lanka, he went to prison in the United States. His name is Raj Rajaratnam. Born in Jaffna, he later moved to the United States and founded several businesses. Later, an American court found him guilty of money laundering and other charges and sentenced him to prison.

At the time, Rajaratnam was also accused of aiding the LTTE. It was revealed that he had contributed tens of thousands of dollars to the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO). Also, he once arranged for a large sum of money to be sent to Sri Lanka in order to purchase a bank here. In addition, he was charged with money laundering in Sri Lanka for his actions. A politician in this country was also accused of involvement in the incident.

Luxury house in Jaffna

However, we also investigated why Raj Rajaratnam suddenly travelled to Sri Lanka after being released from prison in the United States last week. We learned there that Rajaratnam had been constructing a palace-like mansion in his hometown of Jaffna for some time. The construction of the enormous palace has reached its conclusion, and Rajaratnam has arrived in Sri Lanka with the intention of settling there. During this trip, Rajaratnam is also prepared to meet with some of the country’s most prominent politicians, according to the “Rajya Rahas” column.

This residence has a fascinating history. That is, before Rajaratnam had a comfortable home in Colombo’s Gilfred Crescent, adjacent to the Royal College, his wife sold this expensive Colombo home when Rajaratnam was sentenced to an American prison. It was purchased by the owner of a major hospital chain. On that land, he demolished the existing home and constructed a contemporaneous, three-story home. After Rajaratnam got out of prison, he bought a big piece of land in his hometown of Jaffna so he could build a house there.

A Sinhalese architect was responsible for the construction of the home. As a result, Rajaratnam’s wife had to make a lot of changes while the house was being built. Despite her informing the architect of changes from America, due to the architect’s refusal, a conflict arose between the two. Ultimately, the architect in question was fired. Later, someone else completed the construction of the spacious house, and now Rajaratnam and his wife plan to relocate permanently to this house in Jaffna.

Raj Madhav arrived and left.

In addition, we disclosed in our “Rajya Rahas” column last week that Mr. Ram Madhav, a former general secretary of the Indian ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, is willing to visit Sri Lanka in response to a special invitation from the government. We also mentioned that Ram Madhav was a prominent figure in the early days of the Indian Modi government, but that he no longer has strong ties with the Modi government and that he is a close friend of Gotabaya. Accordingly, as stated, Ram arrived in Sri Lanka last weekend, travelled to Nuwara Eliya, had a private conversation with President Ranil Wickremesinghe, and then left Sri Lanka.

When we examine the various discussions between Sri Lanka and India in recent days and the special representatives travelling from India to Sri Lanka, we can see that something is occurring more than usual behind the scenes. The negotiations between Sri Lanka and India to restructure their debt in order to receive assistance from the International Monetary Fund have commenced, as can be seen generally. However, the problem is that the Indian experts who arrived in Sri Lanka within the last few days were security experts and not economic experts.

Several weeks ago, the media reported that the Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval visited Sri Lanka in secret. The media also reported that the head of India’s National Intelligence Service (RO) visited Sri Lanka in secret. In addition, Indian Navy Commander Admiral H. Harikumarda visited Sri Lanka and met with President Ranil Wickramasinghe, which was documented by photographs in the news media. Consequently, it was evident that something beyond economic concerns was concealed here.

Security concern

It is anticipated that India’s general elections will be held the following year. So, it’s clear that Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, has put all of his attention on the election. The economy and national security were the deciding factors in that election. As a result, as a neighbouring nation, we cannot ignore India’s security, nor can we take it for granted. Next year, in order to win the Indian elections, Modi must deliver national economic and security achievements to his countrymen.

Therefore, it is unlikely that India’s attention will shift away from Sri Lanka in the coming months. Therefore, the discussions that took place during the visits of the Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, the Chief of the Indian Intelligence Service, and the Commander of the Indian Air Force to Sri Lanka were unquestionably about extremely crucial and delicate matters.

In the midst of all of this, a very special report we have received indicates that the Indian Ocean-based Indo-China Ocean conflict is reaching its climax. India has strengthened its naval security in the Indian Ocean region over the past few weeks, despite the fact that the media has not reported any additional information. There was one primary explanation for this. On the fourteenth, AIIMS launched a severe cyberattack against a VAII research institute in New Delhi.

After this cyberattack, the Indian government immediately established the Delhi Police and the CBI. Inform the institution and request that they investigate. This CBI The institution transferred the IP associated with this cyberattack immediately. Addresses and e-mail addresses were discovered, and on the 18th, steps were taken to inform the International Police, or Interpol, in order to determine which countries these addresses pertain to. According to the information obtained, all of these IP addresses were associated with China and Hong Kong. Addresses and email addresses.

Repercussion of allowing the ship

After doing more research, they found that someone had broken into about a thousand computer networks belonging to hospitals in India and taken sensitive information. India saw this as such a serious threat that the Indian Ministry of Energy and Information Technology, the Ministry of Technology, and all other defense and technical ministries, as well as the Intelligence Division, were seen to have used all of their resources to find out where this attack came from. This was the primary incident that precipitated India’s sudden security measures.

In contrast, India was extremely concerned about the arrival of the Chinese ship “Yuan Wang 5” at Hambantota port a few months ago. India had lodged an official protest against this Chinese vessel and requested that Sri Lanka prohibit its entry into Sri Lankan waters. According to them, if the Vang 5 enters Sri Lankan waters, it will pose a grave threat to India’s national security. India asserted gravely that this ship was coming to observe India’s security affairs and insisted that it should not be permitted to enter Sri Lankan waters. However, despite India’s objections, the government at the time allowed the Chinese vessel Yuan Wang 5 to enter Hambantota Port a few days later than planned. In addition, India is said to have received information that the advanced communication vessel Yuan Wang 6 entered Sri Lankan waters in November of last year.

What did the Army chief discuss

Also, a month ago, this column revealed that India was conducting a military operation in Rajasthan to test a large number of modern missiles. During this military operation, the Indian National Security Adviser as well as the head of “RO” travelled to Sri Lanka. According to Indian reports, the Yuan Wang 6 has arrived in Sri Lankan waters while this military operation is being conducted in Rajasthan.

Due to this context, Indian investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the Yuan Wang 5 and Yuan Wang 6 high-tech ships arrived in the Indian Ocean after the cyberattack. This incident has become Sri Lanka’s biggest problem in this conflict. Consequently, Sri Lanka is currently in a precarious position. Regarding the safety of Indian waters, India believes that decisions should be made from a position of strength. This occurred a few days ago during the Indian Navy commander’s visit to Sri Lanka. The commander of the Indian Navy traveled to Sri Lanka and made arrangements to meet with the president and the heads of the country’s naval sector.

When the Navy Commander asked the President about the Chinese issue, the President reportedly responded by proposing debt restructuring talks. According to the “Rajya Rahas” column, India is not satisfied with that response. In addition, the commander of the Indian Navy has informed the President that India is taking a firm stance regarding the entry of the Yuan Wang 5 and Yuan Wang 6 ships into Sri Lankan waters, and that naval cooperation in the Indian maritime zone must be expanded immediately to ensure regional security.

All of these facts have been reported to shed light on the current grave situation. And it has come to our attention that India will make some difficult decisions in this context. India’s decision to construct a strong security fence around Trincomalee is one of the decisions that have been made. Accordingly, it is now known that India has decided to accelerate the Trincomalee oil tanker project. In addition, there are reports that India intends to accelerate the development of the acquired western terminal of the Colombo port.

China gets ready for a tiff?

In recent weeks, the Sri Lankan media has reported repeatedly that the government has resumed negotiations with the Tamil parties in the north in order to distribute power to the north-eastern regions. However, no media has reported on this chain of events taking place behind the scenes. The media reported that opinions were exchanged during the discussion of the thirteenth constitutional amendment and a subsequent division of powers. However, the information we have thus far indicates that the issue of Indian security has taken precedence over the devolution of power in Sri Lanka on India’s list of priorities. In spite of this, it is still too early to say whether bringing the issue of power sharing in Sri Lanka to the forefront could cause another crisis at this time.

Against this backdrop, it has become apparent that China has modified its Sri Lanka plans. The Chinese ambassador to this country, Mr. Lee Sheng Hong, left for China a few days ago, so the deputy ambassador is now in charge. Last week, this Deputy Ambassador travelled to Batticaloa and the Jaffna District, where he participated in a number of aid distribution programmes for individuals in various fields.

In light of this, China has decided to support the Sri Lankan government in specific sectors rather than directly. It is common knowledge that China intends to enter every home in Sri Lanka by providing shelter for the homeless, aiding fishermen, outfitting students with uniforms, focusing on specific provinces, etc. For this reason, they have opted to provide students with uniforms. According to reports, they have chosen to comply with the country’s 76% uniform requirement rather than directly support it.

It is common knowledge that China intends to enter every home in Sri Lanka by providing shelter for the homeless, aiding fishermen, outfitting students with uniforms, focusing on specific provinces, etc. For this reason, they have opted to provide students with uniforms. According to reports, they have decided to meet the nation’s 76% uniform requirement. Additionally, they have decided to provide farmers with fertiliser. All of these facts indicate that China has decided to assist the respective fields without contributing funds to the government. As a result of this, it is now evident that the government will also face a crisis.

 Election lies are over

In light of these circumstances, the government is planning to postpone the local government elections. In the past, the government has made numerous efforts in this direction. At one point, it was deemed that the number of members of local government bodies was excessive. On another occasion, youth representatives of local government organisations stated that 25% should be given the chance. On another occasion, they argued that the Janasabha concept by Karu Jayasuriya should be implemented instead of local government bodies. On another occasion, the government planned to delay the election by quickly appointing the Constituent Assembly, disbanding the commissions, including the Independent Election Commission, and appointing its own representatives.

The government ultimately planned to postpone the election, citing a lack of funds, despite the commission having called for the election. In this “Rajya rahas” column, we have sequentially arranged all of these events from the very beginning. In light of the revelations we made, it became apparent that the opposition is also taking immediate action against the government’s actions to delay the election. In the past, the government’s plans have consistently failed.

 Punchihewa’s lie

However, on numerous occasions in the past, we have reported via this channel that the government intends to delay the election through  Mr. Nimal Punchihewa, the chairman of the Election Commission. As soon as the Chairman of the Election Commission announced publicly that he would publish the gazette notice announcing the local government election in the last week of December, it was widely believed that the notice would be published on December 26. Last minute, however, the chairman, who did not issue the gazette notice on December 26, confirmed that his initial statement was false and postponed the publication of the notice until January 5. Simultaneously, a government campaign stated that even if the chairman announced the election, it would be postponed for another year due to a lack of funding.

Consequently, we also conducted research in this area. We discovered that the United National Party and Pohottutu were spreading this statement intentionally. This is due to the fact that neither of these parties can find candidates. Over sixty percent of the candidates in Pohottu have already informed the Pohottu leaders that they will not be running in the provincial council elections this year. In this situation, the leaders of both parties learned that a large number of UNP and Pohottu candidates intend to run for office under the banner of Sahabaya and other parties. In order to avoid this circumstance, these two parties intend to conduct a campaign in which the election will be delayed by one year.

Basil, who has a keen understanding of the situation, has called for the election nominations in a hurry and even taken oaths from the candidates to avoid the situation. There, Pohottuwa has informed his candidates that if they do not sign for the nomination, they will be removed from the council.

 Speaker wage war

In the meantime, it is a well-known fact that Punchiheva, the chairman of the Election Commission, is pretty friendly with the Rajapaksas. In accordance with Gotabhaya, through Basil’s recommendation as per the 20th Amendment, Punchihewa was appointed as Chairman of the Election Commission in order to lay the groundwork for conducting the elections in the manner he desired. According to the existing rules, however, Punchihewada has no recourse regarding the postponement of the vote. Even though the UNP members plan to delay the vote, citing a lack of funds, many point out that Sri Lanka will not even be able to hold presidential or general elections due to the current economic crisis, as the UNP claims. In addition, this argument is completely invalid under electoral law.

In addition, other nations, including the International Monetary Fund, are awaiting a Sri Lankan government with a mandate to assist the nation. If it is not possible to appoint a government with a mandate from the people, they should reconsider aiding Sri Lanka, so the argument goes.

With the announcement that the Panchihewa’s  call for election has been postponed until January 5th, the next step of this operation surfaced. This is Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena’s proclamation that the Legislative Assembly must be appointed and completed by Thursday (29). We had previously informed you that the government intends to delay the election by forming a new commission with the assistance of the Constituent Assembly.

After we disclosed this information, the opposition leader, Mr. Sajith Premadasa, met with all other opposition parties and said that the government will not appoint the Legislative Council until provincial council elections are announced. Mr. S.M. Marikkar, the party’s media spokesman, made this statement in Parliament. However, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva assume responsibility for appointing Legislative Council members before January 5th. Accordingly, the government intended to appoint the Constituent Assembly at the Thursday meeting of party leaders. The government had planned to continue the Legislative Assembly with the currently appointed representatives if the opposition did not appoint the three civilian representatives.

Sajith reminds the past

As a result, a special discussion took place in Parliament on Thursday, presided over by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, and attended by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa. Sajith objected when Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena advanced this argument and stated that if civilian representatives are not appointed to the Legislative Council, he would continue to function with whoever is appointed already.

There, Sajith explained to Dinesh that from the outset of the Constituent Assembly, everyone agreed to a situation that was documented in writing. The agreement stipulates that the work of the assembly should not commence until all representatives of the Constituent Assembly have been appointed. Sajith, who presented the written report to the Prime Minister, emphasised that the representation of the minor party in the Legislative Assembly must be appointed before the civil representatives.

Currently, two names have been recommended for this position, with Mr. Siddharthan for the northern parties being one of them. Second, the small parties in the south have also recommended Mr. Udaya Gammanpila’s name. Sajith informed the Prime Minister that one of these two candidates should be elected to the Constituent Assembly initially. With this disagreement, the meeting adjourned without a date for the next meeting. . In this manner, the government’s final attempt to delay the vote through the Constituent Assembly also failed.
