The Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court has obtained permission from the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court to hold the couple arrested for the murder of Mr. Roshan Wanninayake, the millionaire businessman who was found murdered in a bathtub on the third floor of a house in Pelawatte, for a period of 24 hours.

The Colombo Crimes Division stated that Azimdeen Insafedeen and his wife Huswa Fazlim, who have been identified as the killer of the businessman, presented themselves to the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court yesterday (06) and obtained this permission.

According to police information, the suspect Azimdeen Insafedeen was taken to Kadawata and handed over to the police after Huswa Fazlim’s step mother made a phone call to an officer of the Kandana police and then he was arrested by the Kandana police and handed over to the Colombo crime division yesterday (05). The suspect’s wife was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division while Insafedeen was being taken into custody and taken to the Colombo Crimes Division.

Investigations revealed that the couple had spent the night in Trincomalee the previous day. It is said that the couple came from Trincomalee yesterday (05) by bus, got off from the shop and stayed near a famous ready-made clothes shop and the police came and arrested the main suspect there.

After the businessman’s murder, the couple had entered the Bandaranayana International Airport at around 3:30 a.m. on the day after the businessman’s murder, i.e. 31, with the intention of visiting the Indonesian islands of Bali. The Colombo Crime Division officials have also revealed that the couple bought two bottles of water from the supermarket located at the airport premises at 3.48 am or thereabouts.

It is stated that the couple came out from the airport premises between 5.30 am and 6.00 am and went to Katunayake bus stop in a tricycle due to having to stop their trip to Indonesia at the airport due to a visa problem. On the way, investigations have revealed that they went to a business place in Katunayake at around 6.05 in the morning.

Colombo Crime Division has revealed that the couple boarded a bus from Katunayaka and came to Colombo and from there came to Kolonnawa and stayed at Mother’s sister’s house.

They went to Trincomalee after the mass media reported that a dead body of the businessman was found.

The main suspect, who had no proper job and no permanent source of income, spent the money on the millionaire’s credit card since the 30th. Investigations have revealed that he had come from Trincomalee where he could not live in hiding as his family members took steps to suspend the cards after the dead body was found. The Colombo Crime Division also states that this main suspect has been working in a telephone and electronic goods showroom located in a super shopping mall in Kollupitiya.

The beard that had grown over the face of the main suspect who killed the businessman on the last 30th and went to the airport and returned to Kolonnawa from the airport was not found when he was arrested. A senior police officer said that he had changed his appearance by cutting the beard that had grown all over his face, leaving only his mustache.

Two of the 04 credit cards stolen from the businessman’s wallet were found in the suspect’s possession. The police say that he is not properly telling what happened to the other two cards. The suspect said during police questioning that he did not steal the businessman’s wallet. So far, the police have not been able to find this wallet.

The businessman’s mobile phone was also stolen by this suspect. He had even booked flight tickets to Indonesia with that mobile phone. Also, he had made many calls from that mobile phone. Colombo Crime Division has questioned him about that phone. There he had said that he went to Wellawatta on 31st night and threw it towards the sea. A special police team checked the place where the mobile phone was said to have been thrown towards the sea and its surroundings, but the mobile phone was not found until yesterday evening.

Yesterday, the house where the businessman was killed was once again subjected to a thorough investigation by the officers of the Colombo Crime Division. It was to find a used condom that was allegedly thrown from the upper floor by the businessman. The police say that the suspect had bought a packet containing three condoms, but two were found in the house during the inspection after finding the dead body of the businessman. The police say that out of that, one had been used and one had not been used.

During interrogation, the suspect said that he had used two of the 03 condoms. According to that, the police started looking for the third contraceptive pill yesterday. The suspect has been living with his wife until recently in his main house on Dabare Mawatha in Narahenpita. But when the businessman was killed, the two of them were staying at the house of the wife’s parents in Kolonnawa Gotathatuwa. Investigations have shown that he had a strong need to move to a rented house with his wife and for that he also needed money. It has been found that on the last 30th, he decided to meet this businessman and came to Pelawatte’s house with the intention of getting some money from him.

During questioning, the suspect told the Colombo Crimes Division that he was staying in Dehiwala area when he received an invitation from the businessman to meet him. During the police interrogation, the suspect said that it was he who told him to bring a packet of birth control sheaths and that all the message exchanges took place through the WhatsApp application.

The suspect has said that he went to Pelawatte with the same packet of condoms from Kalubowila he bought from the Pharmacy and on the way he got in the car with the businessman and went to Pelawatte’s house. During interrogation, the suspect said that the two stayed there for about two hours. During that time, he was very intimate with him and there he asked him for a sum of one lakh rupees and when he was heartbroken because he said that he did not have money, when he tried to be intimate with him for the second time, he attacked him with a stick because of his anger for not getting the money. It has been said before the officers of Colombo Crime Division.

A senior police officer said that the extra 24 hours granted by the court will end today, so the suspect couple will be presented to the Kaduwela court today and the main suspect will probably make a confession before the magistrate. The dead body of the businessman found at his house in Pelawatte on the 2nd evening was disfigured due to being in the water for several days, so none of the family members recognized him. Therefore, on the last 03, the body was subjected to a post-mortem examination and there was no opportunity for the forensic medical officers to declare the cause of death.

Accordingly, the body of the millionaire businessman in the Colombo Police Mortuary was sent for a post-mortem examination yesterday (06).
