European Union in Sri Lanka and the Maldives in a meeting with the president Ranil Wickramasinghe issued the following statement.
Had a constructive meeting with President Ranil Wickremesinghe today. The 🇪🇺 is a partner in challenging times. For us, the protection of civil and #humanrights, above all #freedom of expression & right to #dissent, is of utmost importance. We agree that bringing Sri Lanka back on track requires joint and inclusive action now.
On foreign affairs, the EU encouraged the President to devote special attention to 3 ongoing key processes:
1 GSP + 2. IMF 3. Human Rights council
The EU hopes that concrete steps will be taken by the government to make these processes a success.
