In Dehiwala, police apprehended Navy commander’s house robber.

The Colombo Crime Division says that the suspect who stole the brass hinges attached to the doors and windows of the private house of Navy Commander Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera was arrested in Dehiwala.

The arrested suspect is a 30-year-old resident of Madapata Jamburaliya, nicknamed “Sudu”.

The suspect had stolen a stock of hinges worth 64,000 rupees.

The Navy Commander resides in the official residence with his family members and occasionally visits this house in Polgasovita, Horetuduwa, Delgahawatta area, police said.

The theft took place between the 2nd and 17th of April.

Police said that the arrested suspect had stolen the brass hinges attached to all the doors and windows of the house and sold them to a hardware store in Bokundara for 5,600 rupees.

It has been further revealed during police investigations that the suspect did not steal any other property from the Navy Commander’s house and earlier in this way only hinges were taken from three houses in Kesbewa police area.
