IMF calls for sufficient assurances from creditors on debt sustainability

In order to obtain approval from the International Monetary Fund’s Executive Board to extend an extended funding facility to Sri Lanka, the International Monetary Fund stated in a statement that it requires sufficient assurances from creditors that Sri Lanka will restore debt sustainability.

Confirming to the announcement, the International Monetary Fund officials expect that certificate during their visit to Sri Lanka on the 24th. According to the announcement, IMF officials will visit Sri Lanka from the 24th to the 31st of March to discuss economic and financial reforms and policies with Sri Lankan authorities.

According to the IMF, the purpose of the visit was to make progress toward reaching a staff-level agreement to provide credit to Sri Lanka as soon as possible. According to the International Monetary Fund, Masahiro Nozaki and Peter Brewer will lead an IMF delegation to Sri Lanka.
