IMF: Cabinet has not yet been briefed on the accord, President notifies Speaker

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has informed the Speaker that the Cabinet of Ministers in Sri Lanka has yet to be briefed on the IMF Staff-Level Agreement that was recently signed with officials.

The Speaker stated that the President has emphasised that, while an agreement has been reached between IMF staff and Sri Lankan officials, it must be ratified by the IMF’s Executive Board.

“Before that, conversations must take place with the other creditor countries, and their reports must also be included, and no decision will be made,” the Speaker informed the House.

“So, once the President has received all of the details, there will be a cabinet briefing.” The opposition, the Speaker, and other interested parties will be invited to attend the briefing. It is not yet complete and must be authorised by the board. More changes and additions are required. It is not a contract. It has not been accepted by the Cabinet. “He notified SJB MP Lakshman Kiriella, who expressed his concerns in the house as well.
