IGP developed a set of guidelines to prevent incidents of reported suspicious deaths of suspects in police custody, as ordered by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court had ordered the Inspector General of Police to prepare a set of guidelines to prevent such incidents as suspicious deaths of suspects in police custody are being reported.

Accordingly, the Inspector General of Police has prepared a series of guidelines and the guidelines have been given to all police officers.

Accordingly, if a suspect is taken out of the police station for investigation, a police officer should be assigned to videotape the suspect being taken out.

Depending on the need, the videos can also be used as evidence against the suspect.

Also, the Inspector General of Police has ordered all the police officers that there is very little chance that a confession given to the police by any suspect will be used as evidence against him.

If it appears that the suspect has committed any crime, it is the responsibility of the police officers to collect the relevant evidence, says the Inspector General of Police.

For the safety of the arrested suspects, the IGP has been instructed to avoid taking the arrested suspects out of the police station as much as possible. If a suspect is taken out of the police station, sufficient number of police officers should be deployed for his protection.

The Inspector General of Police has ordered all the police officers to allow any suspect to meet his family relatives or a lawyer and to display the rights of the suspects near the prison cells so that everyone can see clearly.

If an underworld suspect is arrested, a log should be kept of him or her every half hour.

If such a suspect is taken out of the police station, the station commander of the concerned police station should inform the district assistant superintendent of police.

The Inspector General of Police has ordered that the police should also prevent the attempts of the suspects to steal the weapons of the police officers.
