If no resignation is received, it will be assumed that the President has resigned: Speaker

Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena says if President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s resignation is not received, it will be assumed that he has resigned. That would be followed by appropriate action .

He made this statement at a media briefing where he announced that an Acting President had been appointed. The Speaker’s office is investigating the above-mentioned legal provisions.

Rajapaksa’s letter of resignation was expected yesterday, according to initial plans.
According to media reports, Rajapaksa is preparing to leave Male for Singapore, where he will submit his resignation after arriving this evening.
