If electricity rates are increased, the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission is prepared to act on behalf of the people.

The Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission is prepared to act on behalf of the people without complaint, according to a senior official of the commission, if energy rates are raised in violation of Sri Lankans’ fundamental rights.

The official stated that the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka will take action if the electricity tariffs are raised again in January, as stated by the Ministry  and the Sri Lanka Electricity Board, and that no party has the right to further oppress the people while the country is experiencing an economic crisis.
