Hemp cultivation to begin as a pilot project under BOI – Minister I Sri Lanka Latest News

State Minister for Investment Promotion Mr. Dilum Amunugama states that the permission of the experts was obtained for the cultivation of hemp as a pilot project under the Investment Board.

A special press conference to raise awareness about investments in Sri Lanka was held at the State Ministry of Investment Promotion today (26) afternoon.

The minister has said this.

“Board of Investments is starting a pilot project on hemp cultivation. They are looking for investors for that. The recently released expert committee report has given approval to start a pilot project under the board of investment. For that, we are discussing with investors and experts. We will start testing it soon. For that we have to choose an area. It is often a zone. We intend to start it with a few investors who bring more foreign exchange. They must not only grow hemp but also process minimal products. That is the income of the country. How to do it is being discussed. Because once the rules are made, there should be no controversy. According to the committee report, we need a cabinet paper on how to do that.”
