Tangalle Magistrate Hemantha Pushpakumara has today (7) ordered the release of Hashan Jeevantha Gunathilaka, who was arrested and detained for 50 days under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, along with the convener of the Inter-University Student Council, Wasantha Mudalige.

The Magistrate accepted a request made by the officers of the Terrorism Investigation Unit and ordered to release Hashan Jeevantha Gunathilaka, saying that there were not enough facts to present any charges against him.

Hashan Jeevantha, who was arrested along with the convener of the Inter-University Student Council Wasantha Mudalige and Galvewa Siridhamma Thero, was presented to the court by the officers of the Terrorism Investigation Unit.

The officers of the Terrorist Investigation Unit, who have submitted a report to the court showing the progress of the investigation regarding Hashan Jeevantha, have informed that he has been detained and interrogated for 50 days.

He was arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, but the officers of the Terrorism Investigation Unit have requested the court to release him.

According to a request made by the Sri Lanka Police, the convener of the Inter-University Student Council Wasantha Mudalige, Hashantha Jeevantha Gunathilake and Reverend Galvewa Siridhamma Thero were detained for 90 days.
