Due to severe drought situation, more than 2 lakh people in fifteen districts are facing acute shortage of drinking water.

Agriculture Ministry officials say that the crop damage has exceeded 60,000 acres.

Meanwhile, Professor Wasantha Athukorala of Peradeniya University’s Department of Economics and Statistical Studies said that due to economic problems, people across the country have pledged over 68,729 crore rupees worth of jewellery to banks and mortgage centers last year.
