Geneva starts today! Nada Al Nasheef reports on Sri Lanka!

The 51st regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHCR) is scheduled to begin today (12) in Geneva.

Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights Nada Al-Nashif, who is currently serving as Acting High Commissioner, was scheduled to deliver the High Commissioner’s statement this morning local time.

Michelle Bachelet worked as the High Commissioner of the United Nations Human Rights Council for 4 years, and she ended her term on August 31st.

It is said that in this session, the House will hold separate interactive discussions on the report of the High Commissioner’s Office on the promotion of reconciliation, accountability and human rights in Sri Lanka.

It is stated that a comprehensive report on the monitoring, reporting, reconciliation and accountability of the human rights situation in Sri Lanka, including the progress related to the resolution 46/1 submitted to the Human Rights Council regarding Sri Lanka, is to be submitted.

Countries will have the opportunity to respond to the High Commissioner’s updates and other reports presented during the public debate on 13 and 14 September.

The 51st regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHCR) is scheduled to begin today (12) in Geneva. The session will be held from today till October 7.
