In a significant development, the 20th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, General Daya Ratnayake, renowned for leading the humanitarian operation against terrorism, met with opposition leader Mr Sajith Premadasa. General Ratnayake has officially joined the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, expressing solidarity with the people, with Mr Premadasa appointing him as a senior adviser on public policy.

A distinguished alumnus of Kurunegala Maliadeva Vidyalaya, General Ratnayake’s military career spanned over 35 years, marked by notable leadership roles, including commanding the 6th Battalion Sri Lanka Infantry Regiment and the 23rd Infantry Division during crucial operations. Beyond his military service, he has contributed to post-war efforts, overseeing the rehabilitation of former LTTE fighters as the Commissioner General of the Rehabilitation Bureau.

General Ratnayake’s extensive qualifications include training from institutions such as the Bangladesh Defense Services Command and Staff College, the National Defense University of China, and Cranfield University in the United Kingdom. His appointment as a senior adviser reflects his wealth of experience and expertise in public policy matters.
