A special discussion between the opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa and the Japanese delegation including the Japanese Finance Minister who is on a visit to Sri Lanka took place in the Parliament today (12) in the morning. Sri Lanka Latest News

Addressing the delegation, Mr. Sajith Premadasa, the Leader of the Opposition, said that there are lessons that Sri Lanka can learn from the reconstruction experience acquired by Japan during the post-World War II era, and how Japan was able to develop its export sector by directing its economy to rapid industrialization.

Mr. Sajith Premadasa, the opposition leader who expressed his regret over the short-sighted decision taken by the previous Rajapaksa government to suddenly cancel the Colombo-Sahellu railway project, also gave an assurance to the Japanese finance minister that the project will be restarted in a government formed under his party.

Opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa expressed his gratitude to the Japanese Finance Minister for the support received from the Japan International Cooperation Agency or JAICA over the years. Furthermore, Mr. Sajith Premadasa also expressed his heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the Japanese people who were affected by the tsunami that affected the northern part of Japan.
