The Election Commission has decided yesterday (23) to release the nomination notice for the local government election before the 5th of January.
A special discussion regarding the holding of local government elections was held at the Election Commission yesterday morning, where this decision was taken.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Election Commission had announced that the announcement regarding the date of calling for nominations and the period for acceptance of nominations for the local government election would be issued in the last week of December.
But in today’s discussion, it has been decided to release the advertisement on the 5th of January.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Election Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners were called to Colombo yesterday morning, where they were given the necessary instructions regarding the conduct of the local government elections, according to Election Commission sources.
Sources also state that the local government elections will be held in the middle of next March.
