Easter attacks: Court notifies Maithripala Sirisena

The Fort Magistrate’s Court issued a summons to former President Maithripala Sirisena today in connection with a complaint filed in relation to the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

The former President has been named a suspect in the investigation, and the Fort Magistrate’s Court has ordered him to appear in court on October 14, 2022.

The notification was issued following the court’s consideration of a private plaint demanding that Sirisena be named as an accused in the Easter attacks on charges of failing to prevent the attacks.

Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando, a member of the National Catholic Committee for Justice to Easter Sunday Attack Victims, filed the private complaint.
