Due to the income-expenditure discrepancy, the government will borrow 1364 crores a day next year. Prof. Athukorala

According to Professor Wasantha Athukorala of Peradeniya University’s Department of Economics and Statistical Studies, the Sri Lankan government must borrow 1050 crore rupees from the world every day in order to continue operations.

According to the professor, the government’s income this year is 653 crores, while its expenditure is 1705 crores.

Meanwhile, Mr. Athukorala stated that the government’s income will be 950 crore rupees next year, and the government’s expenditure will be 2160 crore rupees next year, according to the budget document.

He stated that the government’s revenue will rise next year due to increased tax collection.

According to him, the government’s borrowing will rise to 1364 crores one day next year.
