Due to sexual harassment, a well-known TV presenter resigns from the government-owned ITN. So far, no action has been taken on the complaint!

An announcer of Independent Television Service (ITN) has left the company by leaving a note on her FB that she can no longer work as an announcer due to the unpleasant incident she had to face. She is Ishara Devendra.

“I wanted to tell this story on 15.03.2023.

But today many people ask why I don’t tell news, why I don’t do it in the newspaper, so I am telling this story today…

As a child news anchor in the year 2008, I decided to enter the media life on 2023.03.15. It is a big disappointment with sadness.

I prioritise my self-esteem over my job and work accordingly. A woman does not become a prostitute simply because she lives alone. Some old men who are unaware of this occupy higher positions in some media institutes. They project a false sense of power.

I’ve worked in a variety of settings. Unfortunately, this institution is made up of old men who with many short falls in their lives. To advance in your career, you must be mine alone, as these caddish rowdies express. They have an assumed power within themselves and are empty characters. When someone in trouble tries to exploit this and gain an unfair advantage.

Even though I informed the authorities about this with evidence and audio video recording, no one has taken action on it even today. The whole organization knows that this is not just me.

Many girls who came here with the desire to show their face on TV, who came thinking of getting better in life, may have come to a point where these old men become a mental torment. But no one raised a voice. Haven’t talked. Because you need a job. Otherwise, those girls are afraid of these old men. Those old men surround the women in meetings come out with double meaning phrases and only laugh and laugh. Not even a single woman has the strength to speak for the women who have been wronged. I have to say that they are all friends.

However, even today there is no action regarding this, for the sake of my mental health and because my self-respect is number 1 for me, I decided to end my 15-year media career in this way.

This is not only in the media, this is not the first incident nor the last incident in this country. There is a great doubt that whoever comes to the positions will try to change these things.

So don’t let your daughter, wife, sister, get caught by this kind of scumbag. Even when I left, the only request I made to the former authorities was to not let the mental torture and influence that was given to me and other girls to another person tomorrow. I still believe that that request will be fulfilled.

Thank you for loving ‘Ishara Devendra’ and for loving my art of reading news for a while,” she said in her note.
