Do not attempt to subvert the sovereignty of the people! The government and the commission are in perfect accord! We will defeat efforts to postpone the election! (VIDEO)

MP Anura Dissanayake, the leader of the National People’s Force and the Jana Vimukthi Peramuna, has stated that he will not permit the government to further delay the elections for the appointment of representatives to local government bodies. He claims that the government is currently implementing multiple methods to prevent the actual referendum from being held in this country.

“The new institutions of local government should have been in place by March 20, 2022. However, utilising the authority granted to the minister in charge, another year was added to the duration of the institutions. Although these existing local government institutions have a four-year validity period, five years have passed. Due to this, the government employs a variety of strategies to delay the appointment of citizens’ representatives to local government bodies.

Currently, the government is employing a variety of strategies to block the declaration of a genuine referendum in this country.

In addition, the rulers have another difficulty. The President of the United National Party and the government of Pohottuwa must decide whether to run individually or in an alliance. Therefore, they continue to attempt to delay the election.

The Election Commission was given the authority to declare the date for calling nominations for local government elections on September 20. The Election Commission is aware that local government bodies must be created and assembled prior to March 20 after the election date has been announced and nominations have been called. Therefore, the Commission’s maximum possible date for postponement is January 9. Punchihewat and the Election Commission are not declaring the election date on January 9 in good faith in order to allow the president and the administration to postpone the election until the last minute.

It was already reported that the election date will be revealed on January 5. This government and Ranil have been given the opportunity to start any plot linked to delaying the poll till the final day.

They attempted to delay the elections through different legal strategies, including restructuring, reducing the number of representatives, and altering the electoral system. The commission has reached the point of leaning against the wall as a result.

Cannot be delayed once again. However, there are once again allegations of an attempt to delay the vote after allowing nominations. We urge Ranil Wickramasinghe and the government not to engage in a variety of games, gambling, and games with the public’s opinion.

Anura Dissanayake, a Member of Parliament for the National People’s Force, stated in reference to the local government election, “We promise that we will never allow such a leader to take the opportunity to pick the people’s representatives.”
