Despite annual electricity allocations, government organisations have not paid billions.

Government institutions must pay 2.5 billion rupees or roughly 250 crore rupees as electricity charges to the Ceylon Electricity Board, according to an official.

The officer added hospitals, educational institutions, army camps, and police stations must pay most of this outstanding sum and are working to reclaim them.

The insider added that since the Electricity Board is also a government entity, disconnecting electricity is unlikely even if government agencies don’t pay their bills.
