Date fixed for Keheliya’s bribery case

Mr. Keheliya Rambukwella, Minister of Health, and Mr. Jayampathi Bandara Heinkenda, former chairman of the State Printing Corporation, were accused of committing the offence of ‘corruption’ under the Bribery Act by using the mobile phone tariff to which he was legally entitled and having the phone bill settled by the State Printing Corporation. Judge Damith Thotawatta of the Colombo High Court ruled today (03) to hold the case’s “pre-trial conference” on December 9.

Bribery Commission against the defendants for committing the offence of ‘corruption’ under the Bribery Act by conspiring and acting to set off by the corporation by conspiring and acting to set off by the corporation.
Charges have been brought.

When this case was summoned, the lawyers for the plaintiff Bribery Commission submitted evidence and requested permission to change the charge sheet in the case.
Mr. voiced his displeasure and stated that he reserves the right to raise those concerns during the pre-trial conference.

After reviewing the facts given, the judge scheduled a pre-trial hearing for December 9 and requested both parties to make revisions to the charge sheet and objections to it on that day.

In relation to this incident, the Bribery Commission had previously filed a case against these defendants in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, and the High Court had accepted a preliminary objection that the lawyers representing the defendants had filed a case against the defendants without the written approval of the Bribery Commission Commissioners. Both were freed.

The Bribery Commission re-filed a case against the defendants after receiving news that there was no impediment to the complainant Bribery Commission re-filing the case properly.
