The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday (8) denied a request to issue an order prohibiting a protest planned for Tuesday (9) at the Vihara Maha Devi Park in Colombo by political parties and various organisations.
Cinnamon Gardens Police made the request, which Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe denied.
The Chief Magistrate emphasised that the Sri Lanka Police have the authority to intervene if there is a breach of the peace or property damage during the protest.
