SJB parliamentarian Mr Eran Wickramaratna said in the parliament that countries world over change into good governance with rule bazed policymaking and independent commisssions. He also noted the bizzare record Sri Lanka parliment has on some of these issues.

He explained thus.

“Countries world over moving from democratization to globalization into good governance. This is evidence in institutional changes the principal agent relationship created between policy maker and independent commissions; this is a new trend world over. It is a rule based method where rules are clearly defined, and it is also shaping preferences where everything is not just determined by majoritarian votes of National politics”.

Furthermore he said “Sri Lanka parliament has bizarre records on some of this issues we have had some of members in this chambers who have voted for independent commissions in the 17th amendment, and the same people in the 18th amendment voted to abolish the independent commissions. Then once again we bring the 19th amendment and we bring in independent commissions, then in the 20th amendment we bring another amendment creating an authoritarian system putting all the power in one individual, then we bring 21st amendment to reintroduce the independent commissions. This is the record of Sri Lanka parliament and some MPs who have been voting on this”.
