Chairman of drug regulatory authority accept arrival of some inferior drugs I Sri Lanka Latest News

A three-day training workshop was held today (30) for the pharmacists of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Sri Lanka with the participation of the officials of the Food and Drug Regulatory Authority of America.

Professor SD Jayaratne of the Medicines Regulatory Authority gave further comments on this.

“We are conducting an investigation into each of those deaths. We removed all those drugs from use. You may know that a patient died due to an allergy to a vaccine. It has already been ordered to send the medicine to TG Institute in Australia to check it. Currently, I have removed about three or four.”

Question – There is an allegation that the medicine can come back even if it is removed?

Chairman of the Drug Regulatory Authority – “It cannot come like that. That institution are now blacklisted. The institute in India is black listed.”

Question – Do you accept that the cheapest drugs have come to Sri Lanka?

Chairman of the Drug Regulatory Authority – “Some inferior drugs have arrived. For example, the medicine brought to the eyes is inferior. I accept that. We removed it completely. There are many classes of drugs. We can’t test vial by vial.”
