Bullying independent commission heads is not a sign of good governance! Ex chief justice

Former Chief Justice Sarath Nanda Silva has made a special statement to ‘Mawrata’ that not only the government but also the people should take decisions and that harassing the heads of the independent commissions established according to the country’s constitution is not a sign of good governance.

The former Chief Justice said this while commenting on the board’s unlimited profit from increasing the electricity bill and the government’s attempt to remove the chairman of the Public Utility Commission, Mr. Janaka Ratnayake, who had thought about reducing the electricity bill by a significant amount, for the same reason.

The former Chief Justice also said that the government’s efforts to remove Mr. Janaka Ratnayake from that position unfairly and unjustly will adversely affect the existence of independent commissions.

The former Chief Justice further stated that public representatives should be more careful while supporting or raising their hands to remove such an officer.
