Bay of Bengal could be choppy with a definite ‘no sail’ warning

The low pressure area over the South West Bay of Bengal has developed into a depression, which is likely to cross Sri Lanka on the 24th and 25th, the Meteorological Department said.

Due to that, heavy rains and winds will occur in many areas on those days, said a spokesperson of the department.

The Department of Meteorology also advises the fishing and marine communities not to sail in those areas until further notice as the seas off the coast from Mannar to Kankasanthuraya, Trincomalee and Batticaloa to Pottuvil and the central and south-west Bay of Bengal may be rough.
