The opposition leader Sajith Premadasa said that the people of this country demanded a system change, and that cannot be done with carrots like ministerial privileges. He made these observations addressing a gathering of artists.

The leader of the opposition said that when the people of the country are suffering from thousands of oppressions, what the rulers should do is not to extend the ministerial carrots but stop youth suppression which is happening today to the youth who demanded a system change.

A National People’s Assembly-Artists meeting was held today (23) at the Opposition Leader’s office in Colombo. Many problems in the art sector were discussed at length, and special attention was paid to the cinema industry, the television drama industry, as well as the ‘Azidisi’ art sector.

The opposition leader said that the contribution made by many people in the art field to change the existing system by intervening for the people’s struggle can never be forgotten, but he said that the current president and the government consider the struggle based on people’s oppression as terrorism.

The opposition leader, who said that he will stand against the government’s repression, also said that he strongly condemns the arrest and repression of people who contributed to the struggle.
