An unlicensed supplier has been granted three years of coal import! The Latest Audit Report Is Out! Who is the deal’s driving force?

The special audit report regarding the evaluation of the procurement process for the purchase of coal for the period 2022 to 2025 for the Lakwijaya Coal Plant in Norochchole has been released. The report states that a bid related to the supply of coal submitted by an unregistered supplier could have been considered as an unqualified bid.

It is revealed from the audit report that the bid submitted by an unregistered supplier last June has been accepted even though only registered suppliers should be invited to import coal.

Last August, the Ceylon Coal Company asked the Attorney General about the possibility of conducting business with this non-resident coal supplier and the report stated that the relevant supply was awarded to this bid before receiving the opinion of the Attorney General.
