AIDS and STDs are on the rise: 429 people have been diagnosed with HIV in the last nine months of 2022.

The National STD and AIDS Control Program says that 429 people infected with HIV have been diagnosed in the last 9 months of 2022.

It includes 14 university students and three school students.

HIV infection occurs through 03 main ways of entering the body of an infected person’s blood.

If the infection occurs and the immune system of a person who does not receive proper treatment is affected, AIDS will develop between 2 and 7 years.

The number of HIV infected people reported in 2021 is 410.

Among the 429 infected people reported this year, there are 14 university students, three school students and two police officers.

“The reporting of HIV infected people between the ages of 18 and 30 has doubled. This increase is in Colombo and Gampaha districts. School students are those who met on the bus and train and became infected from sexual activities every two months.
