A new struggle begins on June 9th! I Sri Lanka Latest News EXCLUSIVE

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna has decided to start a new struggle on June 9, demanding to confirm the voting rights given to the people by the constitution.

Although the local government election was scheduled to be held last February, the government postponed it on many occasions, informing the country that there was no money to hold the election.

The opposition and other parties had filed fundamental rights petitions against it before the Supreme Court, where the government also told the court that due to the financial crisis, it is not possible to hold an election at this time.

Accordingly, the government sought the support of the International Monetary Fund to overcome the financial crisis, and it has now been 03 months since that support was received.

In view of this situation, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, which has been silent for the past 3 months, has decided to break the silence and start a massive struggle within the country by demanding that elections be held again on June 9.

It has been learned that the Janata Vimukthi Peramuna has decided to resort to strict measures as felt by the government at the end of this campaign which is planned to be launched across the country at the district level.
