A 51-year-old woman died inside Panadura Police Station. This is the second such death in as many weeks I Sri Lanka Latest News

A news of the sudden death of a 51-year-old woman in police custody is reported from Panadura.

Today (24th) at around 6:30 pm, 04 police officers from Panadura North Police arrived and made this arrest, according to Ada Derana reporter.

Acting on a tipoff police raided the house for illegal liquor in Diggala, Delgahawatta Road, Panadura, the police had checked that house.

Later, the police took a 51-year-old woman from the house.

Commenting on the incident, the woman’s brother, who lives near the house in question, said that she was ill and he requested not to take her.

However, 4 police officers of the Panadura North Police took the woman away in a three wheeler without a policewoman.

It was further reported that the woman’s illness worsened in the three-wheeler.

But it was also reported that the police officers took her to the police station regardless of her illness.

After that two nephews of the woman came behind the police tricycle and near the police the police officers told them to take the woman to the hospital as she was sick.

Accordingly, the two nephews picked her up in another three-wheeler and took her to Panadura Basic Hospital.

However, they say that the hospital informed her that she was dead even when she was admitted to the hospital.

A 51-year-old married woman named Nayana Roshani has died.

Meanwhile, the case of a woman who fell ill while taking statements at the Welikada Police and died after being admitted to the hospital had been reported earlier.

Investigations are also underway regarding that incident.
