A 17-year-old boy broke into the house of former Colombo Crime Division DIG Lugoda and stole 17 lakh rupees worth gold!

A 19-year-old suspect who stole gold jewelery worth more than 17 lakh rupees from the home of retired DIG Sarath Lugoda, who was in charge of the Colombo Crime Division, has been arrested in Anamaduwa area.

The concerned suspect was arrested by the Mt. Division Criminal Investigation Division and it was discovered that the stolen gold items had been sold to various places and all the items had been melted down.

On August 22, last year, the retired DIG and the residents had entered the house and committed the theft when they left the house.

When the suspect came to steal the property, it was recorded in a CCTV camera that he was waiting in front of the house of the retired DIG, holding the mobile phone to his ear.

Police said that the arrested suspect is wanted for many thefts that occurred in Talangama, Mirihana and Mt.lavinia

The suspect is a resident of Nawakathegama, Wellewawa North.

The suspect will be produced before the Mt. Magistrate Court.
