80 MPs of Pohottuwa petition to Ranil against a section on 22!

According to the reports, nearly 80 MPs of Parliament have signed a petition. This they have handed it over to the President, seeking a change to a clause in the proposed 22nd amendment.


If not done the MPs threat, that they would not participate in the voting on the bill.


The MPs concerned request to change the clause that empowers the President to dissolve the Parliament in two and a half years. This is included in the twenty-second constitutional amendment, however the members request to make it to four and half years.


Thus, the group of 80 MPs signing the petition. This includes a group of members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and a group of the independent members of Parliament.


By signing the petition, these MPs demand that the clause empowering the President to dissolve Parliament after two and a half years should be changed to four and a half years.


Meanwhile, there has been a tug of war between the members of the government regarding this. The clause on the power assigned to the president to dissolve the parliament in two and a half years, which is included in the twenty-second constitutional amendment.
