640 Lakhs Ransom Demand for Swamp Clearance: Prasanna Appeals High Court Sentence, Court of Appeal Hearing Set for April 30-May 3 in Sri Lanka

Minister Prasanna Ranatunga was found guilty in the case of trying to extort 640 lakh rupees from a businessman to provide necessary facilities to reclamation of a swamp in Meethotamulla area while he was working as the Chief Minister of the Western Province, and the Colombo High Court sentenced him to two years with hard labour. In addition, the court imposed a fine of 250 lakh rupees against him.

Against the decision of the High Court, the Minister filed a petition before the Court of Appeal, and the Court of Appeal announced today that the petition will be heard on the 30th of April and the 3rd of May.

The minister is requesting the petition filed before the Court of Appeal to acquit him in the extortion case.
