Rehabilitation Commissioner General Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi mentioned that 5 inmates aged 22-30 had escaped yesterday (15) afternoon.
Search operations are currently underway.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation announced that operations are underway to find 7 more inmates who went missing after the recent clash at the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre.
225 inmates arrested in connection with the conflict are on remand.
