SLT-MOBITEL Powered IEEE Innovation Nation Sri Lanka’s Grand Finale competition 2022 concludes on a high note          

Committed to ushering an innovative mindset and encouraging the budding entrepreneurs, SLT-MOBITEL, the National ICT Solutions Provider powered the IEEE Innovation Nation Sri Lanka’s (INSL) grand finale competition and awards ceremony 2022 as the ‘Innovative Partner’.

SLT-MOBITEL actively promotes multi-channel pipelines to build cutting-edge digital solutions to serve the nation and as the Innovative Partner of the INSL competition, and awards presentation, the group has further strengthened the platforms, harnessed young talent and set in motion a new wave of entrepreneurship.

The IEEE Innovation Nation Sri Lanka competition conducted since 2018, is spearheaded together with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) being the world’s largest professional society, to provide training, mentoring and financial support to entrepreneurs across the island, enabling them to take their ideas to greater heights. Through the INSL programme, the young minds are nurtured and exposed to the global market, placing them to win seed-funding.

This year’s competition in its fifth consecutive year, covered nine provinces, 21 student branches representing local universities and institutes, conducted 10 competitions with breakthroughs of over 100+ innovative ideas.

The INSL 2022 program, was mainly focused on two categories – the Business Stage and Idea Stage. Workshops, training, and mentoring sessions were provided to the participants of each stage. The top five teams from each stage competed in the grand finale or Final Pitch and presented their innovative concepts to the judges. And top three winners were chosen from each stage. The winners were rewarded with an attractive start-up bundle including monetary prizes. And all the finalists were awarded with cash prizes.

From the idea stage Codio from the University of Moratuwa won the competition whilst Immersive Smile Plus from the Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) became the first runners up and EMD Labs representing the University of Uva Wellassa bagged the second runners-up position. Under the business stage, Zent App won the competition whilst Organia Lanka (PVT) LTD became the first runners up and Ecozilla Electric Bicycles was rewarded with the second runners-up position.
