The disappearance of US$2.5 million from the Treasury amounts to a major theft, and it is ultimately the public who will have to bear the cost, Finance Committee Secretary Harsha de Silva stated.

Speaking on the matter, de Silva said that the Central Bank had not accepted certain points contained in the report submitted by Harshana Suriyapperuma regarding the issue.

He further noted that a separate report on the matter is also scheduled to be submitted to the Finance Committee within the next week.
